Pack Trips: Lhagang Grasslands & High Wild Lakes

The Lhagang Grasslands are a group of high plateaus around the low Le River Valley.  Nomadic yak herders moved into this area about 500 years ago, coming from the Golok and Sertar grasslands to the north.  Their descendants still live in the area, working with yaks and living in clans on the high plateau as their ancestors did.

In the high grasslands west of Lhagang, the plateau reaches 4600 meters, and is dotted with marshland and deep sinkhole lakes, with sheer rock sides, connected to the ground water system.  Legend says that a wave sometimes will sweep all the yaks, tents, and saddles from one lake, into another 20 kms away.

These high plateaus are the arena of silence, wind, and the high wolf dens: green in summer, yellow in autumn and winter.  Open land.

Trips can be planned for single people or for groups.  They can be horse rides or hikes with pack horses.
